
SCIM BROTHERS MSOMBWE FARM.
SCIM Brothers Msombwe farm are located in a modified type of equatorial climate, south west about 30 kilometers off Iringa town center. The weather of this area is favorable for agriculture receives moderate rainfall average is 750mm. Humidity is around 66% in the mornings and 48% in the afternoons, and temperatures of average 15-30ºC with arable land. There are about 560 households living in this area. The economic activity of these people mainly is agriculture which is seasonally done depending on rainfall. Crops cultivated there are white maize, beans and sunflower including cassava and sweet potatoes. The agriculture done is mainly for food subsistence with very low surplus. The small people about 15% involves in both crop cultivation and animal keeping, while 85% involves only with food crops agriculture. The area is approximately consisting about 800 hectors for agriculture and animal pastures. The people living in this area ethnically originally is dominated by Wahehe and a few other tribes especially Wakinga and Wabena.

Basing on the social services particularly food security, SCIM Brothers involves in food crops cultivation and collaborates by the government agricultural extensional officers to provide agricultural knowledge to the local communities, through seminars and visiting peoples’ small farms in order to meet the goal of available food security in the local communities. This mission has many successes in the sense that food production went up and starvation in the communities has reduced to approximately 15% from 30%. There some challenges still remain including poor technologies used in cultivation. SCIM Brothers depends on agriculture with collaboration of surrounding local communities. Therefore, agriculture activity is very important to SCIM Brothers with its institute and local communities for livelihood.
